Lately I’ve been so busy with work and stressed with so many things happening in my life. I desperately need a vacation! Working at 12AM to 9AM five days a week is really hard. Good thing there’s The Morning Rush to help me escape reality even just for a few hours a day. I try to listen to the show everyday but in cases that I can’t I listen to the show via podcast. I must admit driving to work 11PM at night is kinda boring but listening to the show makes the 40 minutes to 1 hour drive entertaining.
To those who are not familiar with the show, it is an award-winning weekday morning radio show of Monster Radio RX 93.1 hosted by Chico Garcia, Delamar Arias, and Gino Quillamor from 6-10am. It is also broadcast every last saturday of the month from 6-9am and this is also the EB (eyeball) or get-together of the rushers. Note to self: Maybe I should go and check this EB out.
The show has a cult following of listeners, who call themselves “Rushers”. Rushers would usually tune in to the show while on their way to work or school. The show was first aired on Monster Radio in 1996 and was moved to 93.9 KCFM (now I! FM) in 1998, and then went back to Monster Radio in 2002.
During the four-hour stretch, listeners would submit their entries via SMS and through their twitter account http://www.twitter.com/rxtmr (@rxtmr). The DJs would then pick the best entries and announce the bottom half starting at around 6:20 and the top half starting at around 6:50. The whole show would have four batches of top ten lists. There are also Saturday shows that happen every last Saturday of the month, which serves as the Rushers’ monthly EB. Here, all the listeners of the show gather, will meet and greet Chico and Delamar. Their Saturday show sometimes changed on special occasions. The last Saturday show of the Morning Rush aired on February 14, 2009 to make way for their Valentines Special. On their 15th-year anniversary (last July 9, 2011, the second Saturday of the month), they broadcast their show live from Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf branch at Ortigas Park. Chico and Delamar boarded as it was a regular Saturday show.
Its main feature is the Top Ten (formerly Hot Ten). The DJs would pick a topic for the day and announce it at the start of the show. (Chico would usually choose everyday except on Wednesdays, when Delamar would choose the topic and entries) DJs would choose from topics suggested by listeners or occasionally come up with their own topic.
In 2005, the show had two new members: Brad Turvey and Sarah. Brad Turvey joins every Mondays and Wednesdays while Sarah joins in between those days.
In 2007, They were joined by Karen.
At present, they would sometimes be joined by the Radio 1, their student jocks.
In March 11, 2011, the big reveal was announced, Delamar is pregnant and due in October.
In October 11, 2011, Delamar gave birth to a bouncing and healthy baby boy. And from then, she was on maternity leave and Gino sub for her and a new tandem was born.
In October 11, 2011 also had started the tandem which is called “Chichi and Gigi”. Many were amazed and it became an instant hit. They did Epic-pic and Epic Rap-off which is the highlight of the tandem aside from the ultimate “TOP 10!”.
And as of December 19, 2011, Delamar had returned on the radio and then to a surprise, The Morning Rush with Chico and Delamar is now having Gino. It was a pleasant surprise for everyone that RX management decided to put the three of them together for a wild experiment! So you got Chico and Delamar and you got Gino which resulted to a trio tandem they call, “The Kikay Barkada”.
As of late 2011, Chico and Delamar released their book entitled “The Best Of Chico And Delamar’s The Morning Rush Top 10.” The book was officially launched on 28 January 2012 at the activity center of Robinsons Galleria. It ranked number 1 bestseller among local books sold in National Bookstore, as of March 9, 2012.
During every book launch–which happened 4 saturdays in a row for a month in different malls around the Metro–Rushers came to support the tandem. People did not only asked for autographs from Chico and Delamar, but they also asked for ODH (Oscar DelaHopia) Jrhyan and the other rushers.
