Philippine Team - 2012 London Olympics

Philippine Team – 2012 London Olympics

The Philippines first sent athletes to compete at the Olympic Games in 1924, making it the first Country to compete and win a medal in Southeast Asia. The nation has competed at every Summer Olympic Games since then, except when they participated in the American-led boycott of the 1980 Summer Olympics. Filipino athletes have also competed at the Winter Olympic Games on three different occasions since 1972, but not since 1994. The Philippines is the first nation in the tropics to ever participate in the Winter Olympic Games.

Filipino athletes have won a total of nine Olympic medals, with boxing as the top medal-producing sport. With Mongolia winning its first gold medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics, the Philippines now holds the record for the most medals without a gold.

Good luck to our Filipino athletes to the London 2012 Olympics

Don Allado shouts foul!

July 5, 2012 1 comment

Don Allado is under a lot of heat after posting a number of controversial tweets about game fixing within the Philippine Basketball Association.

Barako Bull forward Don Allado fired a series of angry tweets following his team’s loss to the Powerade Tigers in a do-or-die game last Tuesday at the Araneta Coliseum.  The Tigers held off the Energy, 99-93, to stay in the hunt for the last semi-finals slot in the PBA Governors Cup. Allado scored seven points in the contest.

In a series of tweets, Allado blasted the PBA for what he perceived as biased officiating, claiming that “PBA games are fixed.”

Don Allado @alotofDON

I’m the guy that says what others can’t.#PBA games are fixed. They control who is in & who is out. It’s a disgrace to be in this league.

Don Allado @alotofDON

I can accept losing to teams. But I can’t accept losing bcoz of referees.

Don Allado @alotofDON

I am bitter about losing. Not to Powerade, but to #PBA . In my opinion, this leaguehas little credibility left.

Don Allado @alotofDON

I feel for #BarakoRepubliq management. They put in time, effort & resources to form a competitive team like this only to be wasted by #PBA

When told by a fan that he should “delete this tweet” because he will get sanctioned by the league, Allado replied: “I hope they sanction me. I will expose them all.”

@yuri_ph tnx pare. But I hope they sanction me. I will expose them all.

PBA commissioner Chito Salud later said that Allado “is certainly way out of line.”

“He is certainly way out of line. He is indicting not just the game officials, but the entire organization and membership of the league…

“He is indicting not just the game officials, but the entire organization and membership of the league, his co-players and team officials alike,” Salud said, as tweeted by PBA Connect.

“This is a serious accusation, and I do not intend to take it lightly,” Salud added.

Allado will most likely be fined by the PBA, though the league’s media chief, Willie Marcial, said that may not be enough.

“kulang ang fine at suspension sa mga accusations ni allado sa liga (pba).” — willie marcial, pba media bureau chief

Salud told The Philippine Star that he will give Allado a chance to explain himself.

“You have to give him his day. As part of due process, I want to hear for myself what he has to say,” Salud said.

“He’s been in the league for 13 years now and maybe he really has something to say. We’ll find out tomorrow.”

What do you guys think?  Is Don saying the truth or it this a marketing plot to get people’s interest in PBA again?

Aside from Jessica, a 14-year-old New York-based Filipina named Kirby Asunto is making noise in the Social Media circles. Philippine National Anthem is trending after the news came out that she will sing the Philippine National Anthem in the June 9 match of Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley.

She didn’t think twice and accepted the offer. The Pinoy boxing champ first heard her sing during an offering mass before the Pacquiao-Marquez fight last year. She also performed at the concert after Pacquiao won the fight.
