Social Media Day 2012

Social Media Day 2012

Asia dominates the world’s biggest social networking markets according to research from blog 24/7 Wall Street who compiled a list of countries where Facebook penetration (usage per population) is highest.  The Philippines topped the list with  Facebook at 93.9%, Twitter at 16.1%, LinkedIn at 1.9%, and Internet Use at 29.7%.

Social network penetration is incredibly high in the Philippines, reaching 95%.  Facebook is the country’s most popular website, more so than Google, and has a penetration rate of 93.9%.  The Philippines is also the eighth most popular country for Twitter use on a global scale, with a penetration rate of 16.1%.  The popularity of photo sharing has increased by 46% in the country in one year, largely due to Facebook.  Social networking is so popular among Filipinos, the country has been nicknamed “The Social Networking Capital of the World.”

This year definitely is an exciting year for the Philippines in terms of Social Media in general.  Lately, I’ve been very busy attending industry events representing my company (Visual Ally) and every event is a blast.  Meeting new people and networking with possible partners and clients is something I really enjoy doing.  I’m excited for tomorrow’s event and hope to meet the people I interact with on a regular basis online but this time in the flesh.

So if you’re curios like me… join me!

Butterflies at Megamall

Butterflies at Megamall

Last Friday (June 8) , I got invited to attend an exclusive event for bloggers to the lauch of the SM iButterfly.  iButterfly is an Augmented Reality Application on IOS and Android mobile devices.

The app uses 3 technologies:  Augmented Reality, for seeing the iButterflies in the real world, Motion Sensors for catching iButterflies using your phone and your phone’s Global Positioning System or GPS for finding where the iButterflies are.  It is definitely a unique way of enjoying promos from establishments like Starbucks, Krispy Kreme, Forever 21, David’s Salon, Kenny Rogers, Jollibee, Mang Inasal, Chowking, Red Ribbon, Greenwich, Smart, BDO and McDonald’s!

Catching an iButterfly is easy. First, download the application by connecting to the free SM WIFI or the SM_iButterfly SSIS at the participating malls you may also use your phone’s 3G connection. Using your gadget, simply download the App via Google Play and App Store’s, just search for the iButterfly Asia App.  Once downloaded, open the App and start catching iButterflies.  These turn into instant prizes.

As a sustaining effort, SM MEGAMALL launched its own iButterfly campaign offering instant prizes from concepts unique to Megamall, namely: Yabu, Akiba Café, J.CO Donuts & Coffee, Papa John’s, Cha Time, Marithe Francois Girbaud, and SM Megamall Cinema.
